Description

Whole Mataki or Moth dal is a small, brown-colored, oblong-shaped bean, which is especially familiar in Indian cuisine. These have a superior attention of vitamins, proteins, minerals and enzymes. Sprouts are simply digestible. It also has dietary fiber, Folate, all with virtually no fat. They are a fine supply of potassium and iron.

Moth Beans Curry Recipe
Punjabi Style Moth Beans Dal Recipe (Matki) is a delicious lentil curry made from moth beans and is so comforting to be had with just plain Roti.
 It's also good supply of vitamin B, potassium and calcium and also a main source of protein.

INGREDIENTS
  • Moth beans (matki)- ½ cup
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion - ⅓ cup, chopped
  • Green chilies - 1, finely chopped
  • Tomato - ½ cup, chopped
  • Coriander powder - ½ teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 1 ¼ cups
  • Lemon juice - 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Cilantro or coriander leaves - few, finely chopped

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Wash the beans under running cold water till water runs clear and soak them in enough water for 4 hours. 
  2. Discard the water and keep the drained beans aside.
  3. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker on medium heat. Once hot add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  4. Then sauté onion and green chili with little salt. Let the onions get translucent.
  5. Then min in tomatoes.
  6. add all dry spices with remaining salt. Sauté for a minute.
  7. Add drained beans with water. Cover the pressure cooker and let it whistle for 5-6 times on medium heat.
  8. Turn off the stove and let the pressure go down by itself.
  9. Open the lid, add lemon juice and cilantro.
  10. Mix well and serve.
