Description

Turnip Curry Recipe - Shalgam Ki Sabzi
 
Turnip Curry is a semi dry sabji made with turnips, spices and tomatoes and It is very easy to make and goes well with chapati, parathas and rice.

Ingredients
  • Turnip 2 cups cubed
  • Onion 1 cup chopped
  • Tomato 1 cup chopped
  • Ginger Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Salt 
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli Powder 1 tsp or as needed
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp
  • Oil 2 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves a sprig
  • Hing a pinch
  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp finely chopped
Preparations 
  • Wash and peel the skin of turnip. Cut it into cubes.
  • Chop onions, tomatoes and keep it aside.
Method 
  1. Heat oil in a cooker or pressure pan, add cumin seeds, when it sizzles, add  hing, curry leaves and chopped onions.
  2. Saute until onions turn light brown. Add salt to speed up the process.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a few more minutes.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and all the spice powders mentioned under “Spice Powder”.
  5. Cook until tomatoes become mushy and oozes out oil.
  6. Add turnip, salt needed and mix well.
  7. Add a cup of water and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
  8. Once the pressure subsides, open the cooker and slightly mash few turnip pieces.
  9. Simmer for 2 minutes and remove from heat.
  10. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis, parathas or pooris.
